Railgun Rewatch 2021: Season 1 Episode 13

i want to get back into the groove of actually blogging (NOT tumblr-style), so i figured since i'm really into watching old anime i used to like, why not start posting about it? a certain scientific railgun was my favorite anime when i was younger, but now it's kind of. eh. but i still feel very strongly about it.
why are you starting on episode 13?
that's just the episode i'm on right now. i really don't want to start over again.
summary: this is. the beach episode. you know, how every anime needs to have one? essentially the entire cast gets invited to model swimsuits. this episode is allllll fanservice.
overall score: 2/10
i almost skipped this one entirely. i could have, with zero consequence. but i didn't, and ONLY because i love uiharu in this episode.
uncomfortable moments: 6 (mostly kuroko being creepy + weird comments about boobs, but it IS the beach episode so i expected this number to be high)
ok, first of all, i have to say, my memory of this show is super foggy, so i can't remember what plotlines belong to what subplot and, most importantly as this is a pretty big indicator for me: WHICH OPENING THEY USE. i was almost 100% certain that since this is right after the halfway point of the season and the first level upper arc has wrapped up, they would be using the second opening (LEVEL5 judgelight). but no! it's the first one. i'm not complaining because the first one is my favorite, but uhhh...i started out confused. KJNDFGJKN
it's not like this matters, though, because this ISN'T a plot-relevant episode. this is as filler as filler gets. i guess it's pretty fun to watch all the tokiwadai girls we don't usually see interact with the main cast, but now that i'm older and i don't care as much about the middle school cast as much as i care exclusively about kiyama, i found this episode boring as all get out. (that being said, now i'm thinking maybe i SHOULD have started earlier, just so i could talk about the kiyama-focused climactic episodes that come literally right before this.)
i really do love saten and uiharu being supportive friends and encouraging misaka to wear the swimsuit she actually wanted to wear. that's a very nice contrast with the mall episode, where they made fun of the pajamas misaka was looking at. character development!
kongo making all those like sexy poses/sounds though? YUCK. they're middle schoolers, jesus christ.
anyway. this was. an episode full of nothing. don't care about it. those are my thoughts. i think the next episode might also be filler?? i don't remember. god, i hope not.
