Railgun Rewatch 2021: Season 1 Episode 22
confession: i actually sort of half-watched the last three episodes in this season last night, so these are not first impressions. but i guess since this is a rewatch, they were never first impressions to begin with? anyway, let's enter the realm of one of my favorite anime finales of all time.
overall rating: 7/10
the verdict is: they took too long to show me kiyama again, but i forgive them because of what's coming.
okay, first of all, let me say that it is incredibly telling that i was willing to watch these last three episodes AGAIN after just having seen them. to be fair, i was drawing and not really paying attention the first time, but also...i mean it when i say this is my favorite anime finale. just wait. you'll see. (why am i saying that like you're watching with me? well, in case you are...)
kihara is a mad scientist for sure, but he's like...unsexy for some reason? the fuck is up with that? i'm pretty sure it's illegal to make a mad scientist character who ISN'T sexy and overflowing with Gender. and yet! kihara gensei is just a Bastard.
speaking of which...remember when i said i can't stand telestina? in the last TWO episodes, my opinion of her does a fucking BACKFLIP. but first, i have to DESPISE her. in this episode! i'm getting ahead of myself, though.
is that candy thing she does ever explained, or is that just like...a party trick of hers? i can't remember.
i think the way they explain all the kooky sci-fi phenomena is actually pretty cool. like...it's not cringe, which is extremely surprising for an anime like..this. idk. this show sometimes is way better than you'd expect...which is probably why it was my favorite for YEARS.
when kiyama shows up in that suit......................my god. they made her so queer and so sexy. they didn't NEED to. and YET. pretty sure she was my gay awakening when i was still a girl. when she looks and sounds like THAT? that is fanservice for the LESBIANS, thank you very much. which most shonen anime is, of course, lacking! so bonus points to this anime.
okay. and now. when telestina shows up? when she shows up and takes kiyama's kids? girl hinder. girl hurt. girl kill. i HATE manipulative fake ass telestina. also, i hate the little speech misaka gives to let telestina take them. i know it was in good faith, but why would you not side with the unhinged ratwoman..............................
anyway, this episode isn't good yet. but the next two? the NEXT two? that's when this series shines. so buckle up.
